Casablanca

Set in French Morocco during World War II, this classic romantic drama centers on American expatriate Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart), owner of the nightclub “Rick’s Café Américain”. Blaine faces an impossible dilemma when he must choose between his love for a woman (Ingrid Bergman) and helping her Resistance-leader husband (Paul Henreid) escape from the Nazis. Directed by Michael Curtiz, Casablanca is celebrated for its iconic performances and themes of love, courage and sacrifice. This timeless masterpiece won three Academy Awards, including the Oscar for Best Picture. The screenplay is based on “Everybody Comes to Rick’s,” an unproduced stage play by Murray Burnett and Joan Alison. Tickets by donation.

Tickets for this film are by donation. Doors will open at 6pm for the Valentine’s Chocolate and Wine Tasting ($25/person) and at 6:30pm for the film (by donation). Cash bar will be available. No outside food or drink allowed in the theatre. Casablanca is rated PG for mild violence (gunshots, implied executions) and themes of adultery/temptation, along with pervasive drinking and smoking in Rick’s nightclub. Runtime is 1 hour 42 minutes.
